Bay Area Tanka fan and food entrepreneur honored with 30 Under 30 accolade
Last year I had the opportunity to do a Tanka tasting at one of our great retailers, Bi-Rite Market in San Francisco, CA. While there I met Shakirah Simley who is a community coordinator for the store and she actually is a big fan of Tanka. I took the above photo of her while I was there.

This year Ms. Simley was named in the 30 Under 30: SF Bay Area's Food-World Up-and-Comers of 2013 list! Flip to no. 27 when you click the link.

Originally from Harlem, NY, Ms. Simley has a very impressive history -- starting her own canning business Slow Jams (artisan jams, jellies, spreads and pickled veggies), being featured on the Katie Couric show and earning a one-year Fulbright fellowship at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy to pursue a Masters in Food Culture and Communication.

Congrats, Shakirah Simley!
