Greensburg-type community in planning for Pine Ridge Reservation

More than 100 people came out to the Pine Ridge Reservation, SD, this week to discuss the Sustainable Communities Planning Grant that Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation recently received. Representatives from a variety of federal agencies and many community people came to help kick off the planning process for the project.

Along with several tribal agencies, non-profits, experts and community members in the partnership, Thunder Valley is also working with Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell (BNIM). The architecture firm is known for creating the master plan and green building designs for Greensburg, KS, a rural town that chose to reinvent itself as a green community after bring devastated by an EF5 tornado in 2007.
