Happy International Women's Day!
We couldn’t let International Women’s Day go by without acknowledging our co-founder, Karlene Hunter! ⁣
Well-known throughout the Native American community for her local and national service record, Karlene serves on the Board of Directors of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Native American Rights Fund; the National Indian Business Association; and the Pine Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce.⁣
Karlene believes what makes a good leader is being a strong listener, having passion for what you do, and being compassionate. Her advice to women who aspire to run their own businesses is to do what you love and believe in — after all, you’re probably going to work 14 hours a day doing it so you have to love it!⁣
As for the woman in history that inspired her, Karlene said her mother. ⁣
“She was determined to make a better life for her family and couldn’t afford college. She worked from 16 years old to 65 — every day and never gave up.”⁣
