Ken Tilsen, 1927-2013
Tanka CEO Karlene Hunter and the team at Native American Natural Foods extends our condolences to our President, Mark Tilsen, and his family in the death of Mark's father, Ken Tilsen, Saturday in Hudson, WI.

Mr. Tilsen, a prominent St. Paul, MN, attorney, who worked tirelessly throughout his career on behalf of civil rights and Native American causes, died Sunday after a long illness.

Mr. Tilsen is remembered for his work to defend members of the American Indian Movement following their 1973 protest at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation, where Native American Natural Foods is located.

That historical time was a turning point for Mark, who accompanied his father to South Dakota during the trials that followed and then moved to Pine Ridge.

We are grateful for the passion Mr. Tilsen had for fairness and justice, and we are honored to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this time of grief.
