Sharing laughs and Tanka at Bay Area REI

I had a great time traveling around the Bay Area last month for the REI Anniversary Sale. Several of our Tanka team members offered samples to REI customers around the U.S. and educated staff and shoppers about Tanka products.

It was a hoot getting people to try our Tanka products for the first time, and we gained a lot of new fans from the trip. A common question from patrons was, "Is this real buffalo?" They all seemed surprised at my response when I told them, "Yup. One hundred percent all-natural, REAL buffalo!"

Although I encountered several vegetarians, the overall response at REI was favorable given that we are free of nitrates and gluten, shelf-stable for up to 12 months and still a feasible, satisfying snack to take with you while on a hike or long-endurance bike ride. And I must admit, a few vegetarians were tempted. One tried a small sample anyway and another said, "If I ever eat meat again, I will surely try your product first!"

Some funny out-takes from the trip include my confusing a San Jose REI employee, from a distance, for fashion designer Vera Wang. She's pictured in the slideshow above and even posed as "Ms. Wang" might if she were holding up Tanka samples. I also had my share of companion dogs who wanted to eat the whole bowl of Tanka Bites and one even stuck his head in the trash for discarded samples.

Thanks so much to the wonderfully accommodating and friendly staff at REI. Everyone was kind and welcoming. And most of all, positive. Also thanks to Tanka Bar Facebook fan, Sander, for stopping by after reading all of our posts that week and to Carlos REI staffer Ruth Temple for being a big Tanka fan and for being so helpful.
