June 19, 2013

Karlene Hunter with former FDNY Fire Chief, Richard Picciotto. Mr. Picciotto is a 9/11 survivor and was the keynote speaker at RES.
Our CEO, Karlene Hunter and Mark Tilsen, president, are currently at the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development's Reservation Economic Summit. Ms. Hunter is on the board of directors for NCAIED.

The event is located in Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA, and features respected tribal leaders, state and local elected officials, top CEOs, networking opportunities, a three part Tribal leadership seminar, American Indian art market and much more. See photo below.

Our leadership team is sharing a booth with Doug Bystry, president and CEO of Clearinghouse CDFI, one of our great Tanka partners.

RES kicked off with several prominent speakers including Derrick Watchman (CEO of Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise, and Chairman of NCAIED), Gary Davis (President & CEO ofNCAIED), Reggie Lewis (Chairman of Chuckchansi, Inc.), and Barry Brandon (Executive Director of Native American Financial Services Association). This year's RES California theme is "Sustaining Economic Momentum."

In a press release issued today (June 19), "...our panel and presentation focus is demonstrating how Native enterprise and entrepreneurship is gaining ground for Native Americans."

In addition to several presentations and panels, "Richard Piccotto delivered a rousing keynote presentation about his experience as the highest ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Tower collapse on 9/11." He was one of 13 survivors in the North Tower.

Ms. Hunter said that Mr. Piccotto's speech was "spine-chilling." He put life in perspective -- discussing the feeling of knowing he could have died and what became truly important. He reflected on community, family and "brought tears to the audience's eyes," Ms. Hunter said.

"It was phenomenal," she said. "We would like to thank all firefighters."
