Tanka Spotlight: Lakota Prairie Ranch Resort, Pine Ridge Reservation, Kyle, SD

January 07, 2010

Since our launch in October 2007, we have been privileged to work with outstanding retail partners. These folks are so passionate about their businesses and their customers, we decided we needed to share their unique stories. Our Tanka Spotlight series runs every other Thursday. If you'd like to be featured or if you'd like to nominate a Tanka retailer for a story, please contact Jason Stover, jasonstover@tankabar.com.

RETAILER: Lakota Prairie Ranch Resort

OWNERS: Rusty Puckett and Kathy Stover

LOCATION: 7958 Lakota Prairie Drive, Kyle, SD

Tanka Bar: How did you get started?
Rusty Puckett: I was always going to create a motel and already had this idea started in Rocky Ford (SD), but I decided to moved it to the outskirts of Kyle.
Kathy Stover and Rusty Puckett: We were talking about our visitors and that they had no place to stay, or no accommodations, and meeting rooms. Then Rusty pointed at this location and said this where he wanted to put our business. Rusty thought it was going to be an easy job.
Kathy Stover: We saw that there was a need for a motel on the reservation, and we took this opportunity to create one.

TB: What do you think of the Tanka Dog?
RP: They sell real well in the summer time.
KS: I like the Tanka Dogs. They're full of flavor, very tasty, and not greasy.

TB: Do you serve the Tanka Dog in the restaurant?
KS: We serve it as a special because we know that the e-Tanka Cafe sells them daily.

TB: How did you find out about the Tanka Bar?
KS and RP: Mark Tilsen Sr. and Karlene Hunter, before they even started their business, they talked over their idea for the Tanka Bar over dinner at the restaurant. So we knew about the Tanka Bar long before it was out on the market.

TB: How do the Tanka Bars sell for you in your restaurant?
KS: Like the Tanka Dog, the Tanka Bar sells good in the summer but it slows down in the winter. Our main customers are the tourists and hunters that stay at the motel.

TB: What do you like most about the Tanka Bar?
KS: Actually, they taste pretty good. (Kathy said she enjoys the hot and spicy Tanka Bar.)
RP: The Tanka Bar is a light, fulfilling snack.
