Tanka team reports another successful year at Summer Fancy Foods Show
Tanka products were showcased along with 180,000 other products at the Summer Fancy Food Show this week in Washington, D.C. The Native American Natural Foods team joined 2,250 other exhibitors of gourmet and specialty foods at the annual show which is billed as North America's Largest Specialty Food and Beverage Event.

"It was a good show again this year," said Mark Tilsen, president of Native American Natural Foods. "We always come away from this show with a lot of new retailers who want to know more about our products. We met the folks from Amazon at this show three years ago, and now Amazon is one of our most important retailers."

The show, which is normally held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, has been at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the past two years while the New York venue has been undergoing renovations. The 2013 show will return to New York.

According to Karlene Hunter, CEO of Native American Natural Foods, the crowds at this year's show seemed smaller than in years past. "The numbers of people seemed down, but the quality of the attendees was still really good," she said.

The Tanka team of Tilsen, Hunter and Danaj Edmond shared a booth at the show with fellow members of the Intertribal Agricultural Council's American Indian Foods Program, which promotes Native-produced agricultural products.

"We really enjoy getting together with our fellow Native producers at these shows," Hunter said. "It's an opportunity to support each other in our efforts to build sustainable economies in Indian Country."
