Tanka team welcomes longtime friend and his tour group from Germany

Dr. Dirk Rohrbach (back row, second from right) and his tour group members at Tanka HQ
When longtime Tanka friend Dr. Dirk Rohrbach stopped by our headquarters this week, I tried to greet him with a handshake, but he wouldn't have it. A hug was a better greeting this time around (I think he just needed to warm up a little). Dr. Rohrbach of Great Escape Travels has been bringing a tour group from Germany to our offices in Kyle, SD, for the past seven years, since we started the Tanka Bar. It was great to see our friend again this year.

The group camped at the Lakota Waldorf School, and we are having our first fall rain. The names and faces change each year, but the thing that keeps Dr. Rohrbach and his guests coming back is the love of our bison and cranberry bar, along with the culture and the sites.

This year, one of the group members was fluent in English. She was so excited about the Tanka Bar, I don't think I caught her name. She and I visited about Germany and our travels. She also let me know about the activities the group planned for their visit, including the Black Hills and the Badlands. Also they will be trying their hands at bead work and quill work art.

I enjoy it when Dr. Dirk Rohrbach brings his team by our headquarters. It lets me know that summer is over, which also means that a lot of my tours are done for the summer. I hope the group is safe in their travels and we can't wait to see them again next year.
